Youth Ministry
At Shepherd of the Heart, our mission is bringing youth to Christ by communicating His love. What that means is that we do all we can to connect with the every student, grades 6-12, with the intention of sharing with them the power of Christ in our lives, and the hope he offers them. We provide a safe ear and guiding voice in their life, so when they hit the speed bumps as we all do, they have a strong Christian role model in their life to turn to, instead of magazines, MTV, or their friends who are searching just as they are. This includes myself as well as our teachers and counselors.
We are intentional in partnering with the parents and families of the students we serve, to share in the process of raising our students in the body of Christ to know and love Him. We have a unique avenue and perspective of your youth, and if there is any way we can help, we are excited to do it. Our ultimate goal is that by the time our youth graduate, they have a living, active faith and relationship with our savior that will be the foundation to carry them through the rest of their life.
As far as who I am... my name is Kelly Roberts, and I'm the Youth Director here at SOTH. I've been here since the spring of 2009, and I can tell you without hesitation that I'm here because of the great heart I found at this church. There is a strong, clear emphasis on the children here; they are a priority in the planning and future of the church vision.
I was born in Houston and grew up in the Sugar Land/Richmond area. I attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 2005 with a degree in Speech Communication and a minor in Sociology. Upon graduation I went to work at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston for just shy of two years, and then spent two full years as the Director of Youth Ministry at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Personally, I love sports, music, and outdoor activities, and I really love people. I played baseball in high school, I was in the band, and I am an Eagle Scout as well. I am also currently teaching 7th grade science and coaching football and basketball at Fairview Junior High School in Alvin also.
I felt called into Youth Ministry since early in my high school days. It was people at my church growing up, who took the time to invest in me and believe in me that made me who I am. So, for me to have the opportunity to pass that on and share not just what they did for me, but what my Savior has done for me, is a priceless opportunity.
The bottom line is that it is my heart to welcome you and your children to be a part of our family at Shepherd of the Heart. If I can be of assistance to you, or if you have any questions or just want to talk, please don't hesitate to contact me. Call, write, or come by and say hi.
We meet at 9:45 am every Sunday morning at the church, and this generally involves fellowship, fun, Bible Study, prayer, and relationship building. You are always welcome!
Thank you so much!
In Christ, Kelly
